I am working on styling my built in bookshelf in my #projectgreatroom, and I thought I would bring you my list of 5 Simple Tips I like to include in any “styled” bookshelf.
Curated Books of Different Shapes & Sizes
I really like to choose books within a certain color scheme or topic. In this case, I chose books with Blue, White & Tan binding or covers. I also chose a lot of larger books at the base of my stacks and then used smaller books toward the top. Lastly, I changed up the direction of the books – letting some lie horizontally, and others vertically.
Eye Catching & Meaningful Display Pieces
I have featured several key pieces on my bookshelf. One of which is very near & dear to my heart, while others are new purchases (albeit vintage) – and even still, some are new purchases of new items entirely. The point here is to use pieces you love – ones that carry the color scheme you are looking to highlight or compliment. This beautiful Rose Medallion temple jar flanks the center of my bookshelf in all of its vintage glory, and I could not love it more!
Beautiful Art, Prints & Photos
Another thing I like to use is beautiful art pieces, photographs, or prints of images that I really love to compliment the flow of my shelves. When you find a piece of art you love, or you have a photograph of a loved one framed, find a place for it on your shelves – a place where every time you walk by, you are filled with love & joy. It helps if the art/print/photo is also complimentary of your color scheme, etc. as mentioned above.
Plants & Greenery
The green leaves of plants bring such a colorful, fun pop to any bookshelf (& living space for that matter). I love to use some of different shapes & sizes – some real, some faux. It really doesn’t matter. You can use one singular plant, or several. It is up to you and what you love – just remember, we are going for textural contrasts & compliments here!
Lighting
Lastly, I love to use lamp light to bring in warmth to my bookshelves. Wherever possible, I love a little light to warm up the shelf, or add/bring attention to the items displayed. If your bookshelf come equipped with built-in lighting, all the better! I, personally, just love lamp light. I think it makes for a cozier vibe, and it gives me to change to display yet another beautiful object on my shelf.
